September

Oldies but Goodies

Sat. Sept. 6, 10 AM – 12:30 PM, $25

Rescheduled from July, this class will explore some techniques and products from the recent past that we don’t see so much these days. For example, with all the wonderful papers to choose from, we less frequently make our own backgrounds. Yet Luna Lights are still fun to play with, as is a technique combining Diamond Glaze and tissue paper. We’ll color enough paper using crayons and Lumière to cover a Post It Note pad and create an embellishment or two with faux enameling. Finally, we’ll use these materials in finished products.

Ribbon Slide Card

MAKE & TAKE Mon. Sept. 8, 1-2 PM, $5

A card that is permanently tucked away in its own enclosure and is revealed only when one tugs on the ribbon. We’ll make it in fall colors, but you may want to adapt it for the holidays, as it’s easy enough to produce in quantity if you start early.

Magenta Magic

Wed., Sept. 10, 10 AM – 12:30 PM, $20

If you took the “Birds of a Feather” class recently you may recall the predominately blue square card that combined Magenta stamps in a geometric, layered frame effect. This look is vintage Magenta and we’ll recreate it three cards for a variety of occasions, including one for Christmas.

Botanicabella

Sat., Sept. 13, 10 AM – 1:00 PM, $30

Wait ‘till you see the new collection of papers by Graphic 45! As the name suggests, they draw their subjects from nature – sea creatures, flowers, butterflies, etc. But it’s the wonderfully warm, rich color palette that first captures the eye. Shades of red, rust, olive, sepia and butterscotch combine on a cream crackled background. We’ll mix and match the coordinates in a group of five or six cards perfect for the fall season.

Split Personality

Tues. Sept. 16, 6 – 8 PM, $25

Every once in a while you see a stamp that is split down the middle – half solid and half open, for instance. We’ll use these along with others that we divide ourselves for some unique cards with lots of color contrast.

Keep it Natural

Sat. Sept. 20, 10 AM – 12:30 PM, $25

Pressed flowers, buttons, skeleton leaves, raffia, metal and handmade papers along with a palette of neutral colors lend these cards lots of textural interest. You’ll find two or three of the designs particularly suited to the men on your list.

Halloween Honeycomb Book

MAKE & TAKE Mon. Sept. 22, 1 – 2:30 PM, $10

This differs from our previous honeycomb-type projects in that it starts with a precut and folded blank from Pinecone Press, the same company that makes our favorite CD folders. Our task is to cover the pages with colorful papers and lots of embellishments to make this a very special, fun-filled Halloween greeting.

Halloween Preview

Wed. Sept. 24, 10 AM – 12 Noon, $20

Since Anne will be away in October, we’re holding our Halloween classes earlier than usual this year. As you might suspect, these designs will feature lots of specialty papers in the traditional palette of black, orange, purple and green, plus the ghouls and ghosts that are both frightful and delightful at this time of year.

By Request Only

Sat. Sept. 27, 10 AM – 12:30 PM

If you missed the Monday MAKE & TAKE classes this month, this is a second chance to make the ribbon slide card ($5) and/or the Halloween Honeycomb Book ($10.) Please indicate your choice(s) when you sign up.

October

Anne is not available for classes this month, but do check with us, as her plan is to leave some card kits for you to purchase throughout the month and make at home. Check out the November schedule as well – you’ll want to sign up early for the all-day Saturday “Celebrate the Season” on the 15th.

November

Holiday Explosion Box

MAKE & TAKE, Mon. Nov. 3, 1 – 2:30 PM, $10

We’ll do a remake of this popular project especially for the holidays. It’s the perfect container for a small gift, and you’ll have the option of making a lid for the innermost box should you wish to use it for that purpose. There will be lots of sentiment stamps from which to choose, as well as holiday embellishments, although you may want to save room for photographs as well.

Pressing Out the Details – Holiday Style

Sat. 10 AM – 1 PM, $30

Anne is repeating this class by request, since so many of you enjoy this technique. Also, as the technique is now familiar to you, we’ll attempt it in two different color combinations using several Penny Black stamps. The focus will be on completing two 5” x 7” cards, one a floral in rich reds and greens and the other a winter forest scene in blues and greens. Both are finished on the inside as well. You’ll be provided with several additional card kits and suggestions as to how to finish them with the materials remaining from the two larger ones.

The Spirit of Thanksgiving

Wed. Nov. 12, 10 AM – 12 Noon, $20

This is a group of three designs celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday, although you might wish to select different stamped sentiments and use them as more generic “thank you” cards, or perhaps remember a November birthday.

Celebrate the Season

Sat. Nov. 15, 10 AM – 3:00 PM, $10

Join us for our last all-day card fest for 2008. Available designs will include some for Thanksgiving, LOTS for Christmas, a few for the New Year and still others celebrating the beauty of the winter season that may be used for a variety of occasions. With so many holidays and themes included, Anne anticipates having enough kits to allow an initial selection of five or six per person, if you so choose. As usual, you’ll need to wait until everyone has checked in or 11:00 AM, whichever comes first, to pick from the remaining kits. The $10 class fee (payable after class along with your kit purchases) covers your first card and snacks throughout the day. The unstructured nature of the class is best suited to intermediate stamping and crafting skills, as it is difficult in these circumstances for Anne to give personal attention to beginners. Register early and plan to join us for a day of fun and maybe win a great door prize!

Chill Out

Tues. Nov. 18, 6 – 8 PM, $25

The Penny Black “Paris Je Taime” Stickeroos and a gorgeous group of turquoise and green “Vita Bella” papers by Little Yellow Bicycle were simply made for each other! The sticker set features the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe as well as butterflies and flowers, all in cool wintry shades of soft green and blue on white. The papers are in a similar palette enhanced with metallic touches. No need to wait for April in Paris when winter can be just as fun!

Canvas Tote

Sat. Nov. 22, 10 AM – 12:30 PM, $25

Design and paint a canvas tote to keep or give as a useful gift. You might wish to incorporate the abstract style of painting and collage stamping we used on T-shirts earlier in the year, or use a wide variety of stencils to create a more traditional composition of flowers, butterflies and flourishes. Embellish with seed beads or other bits of bling. The tote will be provided as part of the class fee.

Flap Booklet

MAKE & TAKE Mon. Nov. 24, 1 – 2:30 PM, $7

Another blank by Pinecone Press, this 6” square mini booklet includes pages with “flaps” that fold out, providing double the potential space for colorful papers, stamping and embellishing. You may choose between a holiday or a more generic autumnal theme.

December

Medallion Card

MAKE & TAKE, Mon. Dec. 1, 1-2 PM, $5

Remember the paper folding dahlia card we made in May? Well, who decided that the centerfold has to be a dahlia?! Made up in holiday papers, it could just as well be a poinsettia or carnation – or just a beautiful medallion. As before, there will be a choice of additional kits in other color combinations if you wish to purchase more than one.

Holiday Traditions

Sat. Dec. 6, 10 AM – 12 Noon, $25

Take home a medley of holiday-themed cards in traditional (and perhaps some non-traditional) colors. We’ll combine lots of lovely specialty papers with touches of metallic silver and gold, some new for 2008, along with other favorites from previous years. Class will complete four or five cards.

Tempting Templates

Tues. Dec. 9, 6 – 8 PM, $20

We’ll use geometric templates from Die Cuts with a View to create cards with a unique look. The shapes and dimensions of the openings are pre-designed for us, so all we need to do is fill in with our choices of color, papers, sentiments and embellishments. One of the cards will include a small 2009 calendar making it a gift as well as a greeting.

Gift Card Holder

MAKE & TAKE Mon. Dec. 15, 1- 2:30 PM, $5

Our holiday preparations wouldn’t be complete without making something personal to hold what might otherwise be considered an impersonal present – the always appreciated gift card. Past projects have included origami folds and slide mailers. This year we’ll decorate and embellish a slant pocket CD folder to present the gift card in grand style!

Last Minute Holiday Cards

Wed. Dec. 17, 10 AM – 12:30 PM, $25

Still short a few holiday greetings? Never fear – Penny Black will come to our rescue. A stamp here, a ribbon there, a sprinkle of glitter and voila! You’ll have more cards to send in no time flat. If you don’t tell, no one will guess they started with stickers, or how easy they are to make. Class will complete five cards.

By Request Only

Sat. Dec. 20, 10 AM – 12 Noon

This is your last chance to make the holiday explosion box ($10), the flap booklet ($7), medallion card ($5) or gift card holder ($5,) in case you were unable to attend the Monday afternoon MAKE & TAKE classes. You can make one or any combination of these, please indicate your choice(s) when you sign up.
